A lot of used (disposable) vape devices (e.g. Elf Bar, Vapsolo, Hitme etc.) do not throw in the regular trash! These are electronic waste (WEEE category), they contain lithium batteries, heavy metals and other hazardous materials that pollute the environment if not handled properly.

Where to throw away all the used vape devices?

Where you can drop them off in Budapest (current common options for private individuals in 2026):

  1. FKF waste depots (free for residents of Budapest) These are the safest and most easily accessible places for electronic waste. Disposable vapes are also accepted as small electronic devices/battery waste. Main locations example:
    • 11th district – Bécsi út 394.
    • 3rd district – Mozaik utca 7.
    • 10th district – Fehér út 10.
    • etc. (full list + opening hours: fkf.hu → hulladékudvarok) → Feel free to take several bags, usually no quantity limit for residents.
  2. Hazardous waste collection days at your municipality Many districts organize free mobile collections 2–4 times a year (near your residence). They also accept electronic waste + batteries. It is worth checking the district website or the Mayor’s Office.
  3. Collection points at large stores (e.g. MediaMarkt, Praktiker, OBI, Auchan, Tesco in certain stores) Many places have a smaller electronics waste collection bin at the entrance (mobile, remote control, small devices, vape fits). → If you are shopping, you can drop it in for free.

  4. Battery collection points (if you have a large quantity) Many gas stations, post offices, and drugstores (Rossmann, DM) have a red battery recycler. The vape battery fits, but if you have many, a waste depot is better.

Important rules & tips

  • Never go to a junk removal with it → prohibited, fines may apply
  • Do not throw into recycling or green bin
  • If a international manufacturer has a take-back program (rare for disposables), you can look at that too, but domestically it hardly works
  • If you happen to have a rechargeable/modable device → still electronic waste

The best and simplest: drop it off at an FKF or MOHU waste depot – free, legal, and they really process the battery and the electronics.

If you have a lot of it (say 20+ pieces), you can still take it to the depot without problems.

Do I have to pay?

No, not at all!

Dropping off e-waste at MOHU designated locations is completely free.
